Tangipahoa Parish Fire Protection District No. 1 is proud to be the oldest fire protection district in the State of Louisiana.
Established by Act 36 of the Louisiana Legislature in 1942, the district officially began operations on May 10, 1948. For more than 75 years, our department has remained committed to protecting lives, property, and the communities we serve through professional fire suppression, emergency medical response, fire prevention, and public education.
Service Area
The district serves the Third Ward of Tangipahoa Parish, including the Town of Amite City and the Town of Roseland. Through a contractual agreement with the Tangipahoa Parish Council, the department also provides fire protection and emergency medical services to the Amite Fire Service Area East.

Approximately 14,000 residents rely on Tangipahoa Parish Fire Protection District No. 1 for emergency response and public safety services.

Mutual Aid & Automatic Aid Partnerships
Working together with neighboring agencies ensures the highest level of protection for our citizens. The district maintains:
Automatic Aid Agreement with the Independence Fire Department
Mutual Aid Agreements with fire departments throughout Tangipahoa Parish
Mutual Aid Agreement with Hillsdale Volunteer Fire Department in St. Helena Parish
Through these partnerships, additional resources can be deployed quickly during large-scale incidents, major emergencies, and disasters, ensuring the safety of our communities and neighboring jurisdictions.
